Importance of activity in Dementia
When a person has Alzheimer or Dementia, they still have the ability to function even though there might be decline in cognitive.
Activity plays a vital role in terms of physical as well as mental state. Activity can be of everyday task such as entertainment, simple walk out in the nature and other events.
We also encourage to adapt activity and support that is needed to create a well-being and a sense of independence that all being strive for no matter what our physical conditions are.
We want to share with you why activity in Dementia are so important…….
1. Use it or lose it.
This is a very common phrase use in Health care. Our intentions might be noble by giving a helping hand in day to day chores but we might be helping too much.
Doing this in daily task or everyday activity will slow down the process. We need to allow them do as much as possible and let them retain their ability.
2. Providing a structured routine.
Having a structured routine can diminish confusing. It creates stability and this creates conditions for the person to be oriented to time and place.
3. Putting frustration aside and having a feeling of productivity.
As dementia progresses cognitive faculty slows down. A feeling of becoming a burden can arise within a person. Getting them involved in activity can boost their mood and a change in their lifestyle.
4. Reduction in challenging behaviours.
Keeping them occupied with activity can reduce their behaviours which are commonly seen in dementia such as restlessness, agitation, anger and confusion. Its hard to manage their behaviours but keeping them engaged in the activity they love will help the energy to be diverted in the right channel.
Our program are person centered which is set in homely ambiance. Many activity will be outdoor depending on the weather or mood of the client. Programs will be flexible, seasonal and can change without prior notice.
